Summer Sangria
8 years ago / in Eats
Summer is finally turning around in Vancouver. It’s sunny, the fresh fruit stands are out, & there’s nothing I want to do more than have a drink by the pool…more specifically, sangria. Yes, even though it was over two years ago, I am still dreaming about that white wine sangria I had on a rooftop in Barcelona. So, I thought I would make my own.
After a little research, I decided to use this recipe, which I found on this blog.
We started out with a variety of fresh, local fruit that we bought at our favourite stand just down the street. We decided to go with nectarines, peaches, plums & of course lemons & limes. I also thought we needed some berries, so I picked some wild ones from the bushes at the top of our driveway.
^^ isn’t it pretty? Too bad we gotta chop it all up. In my opinion, the more fruit the better.
Washed & chopped, it goes into the biggest pitcher I could find.
Sangria isn’t all fruit though you know…it’s also 1/4 cup triple sec, 1/2 cup of brandy & a whole bottle of wine.
^^ like my fruit, I went with a local wine from the Okanagan Valley!
^^ once it’s all mixed together, add a little simple syrup, top it off with some club soda, stir & stick her in the fridge (I actually opted for agave syrup as a sweetener instead…it’s a little healthier & a little goes a long way!).
After your pitcher cools off in the fridge, garnish your glasses with some fresh mint, a lime wedge & lots of ice.
^^ so excited to finally pull out these glasses & platter from Anthropologie!
It turned out to be so good (& very strong) & I would definitely make it again!
